[Archie woke up yesterday.  How is this new?  Well, after getting some fairly critical stab wounds from Grell, he was put on a ventilator and kept under sedation for a few days.  The ventilator was exchanged for a less impressive-looking concentrator yesterday and he was taken off sedation.  He spent yesterday sleeping anyway, since anesthesia doesn't generally leave you bright-eyed immediately afterward.

This morning, he is talking and eating Jell-o, which is a new experience. The most important bit comes written on the journal network in wobbly handwriting courtesy of the heart monitor clipped on his finger.]

I have been informed that I may have visitors. I'd like to know everyone is all right.

Kennedy

[Anyone who comes in will find him looking predictably weak and pale but lucid and in good spirits, or possibly catnapping after a dose of painkillers.

OOC: Purely for the sake of mercy, Archie is unaffected by the event.]

I understand that Twenty-Six isn't any different from Twenty-Five, and that birthdays are no accomplishment, but I find myself especially grateful for this one. I didn't expect to spend it thinking about being thrown into the lions' den tomorrow, but one can't have everything.

[Archie will be about the library, the grocery store, and Good Spirits today, looking strangely neutral. Catch him pretty much anywhere. Horatio is permitted to tag along wherever, so responses might come from both.]
simplestgift: (Up to something.)
[So camping did not turn out bad. In fact, Archie really had a great time the second day, after he got used to sleeping outside without one eye open. And not actually being the designated Camp Guard, a duty he'd taken on himself without being asked. When he returns home, he hasn't showered in two days--not a huge concern for him, usually, but since he hadn't had the chance to pack extra shirts, he's feeling really grungy--and is fairly certain he will sleep like a rock tonight. After a shower, he'll send out a voice message over the journals.]

I apologize to anyone who was worried.  I was out camping for a couple of days.  It's actually better than it sounds, once one gets used to it.  Anyway, seeing as I was given absolutely no notice about this little escape, I left my journal behind and couldn't notify Mister Hornblower.  I apologize for him being utterly ridiculous.  He can be summat like a lost pup without me.  [spoken with the utmost fondness, of course.]

While I was gone, did anyone named Kaji appear in Luceti?  If that is the case, I need to speak with you.

Would anyone like to join myself and Mister Hornblower in a game of whist this evening?  I'm sure he doesn't mind being volunteered.  We need four players altogether.  [He doesn't mind playing as long as he's Horatio's partner, really.  It's the only way to win.]

It has come to my attention that every copy the library has of Richard III is missing bits of his famous speech. I've noticed it in other places as well. Romeo and Juliet is lacking the lines when she wakes up and they reunite before he remembers he took poison. All for Love is also just a bit different from what I remember. Far as I can tell, The London Merchant is whole, but quite a lot of older tragedies are missing bits and pieces. Can anyone explain this?

There's something about the fight between Tybalt and Mer

[The writing stops. A second later, the journal hits the floor, showing a lovely view of the carpet in one of the many apartments in the village. In the background, Archie's voice begins, sounding a little flustered.]

Horatio, I'll be back in a few hours. Damn, damn.

Dialogue cut for length. )

[What follows behind CH1 is two navy boys gleefully trying to chop each other up.  It's more akin to horseplay than practice, but it appears that "the twins" are having fun, at least. Onlookers feel free to look on.

Later, Archie will do a little honest practice on his own in the same place.

OOC: Anyone whose character knows stuff about lit history can point out that a lot of older plays in the 18th century were rewritten just a little to update them for a "modern" audience.]

If anyone who has not already volunteered to take part in the comic sketches at the festival would like to do so, please let me know. You do not have to be a student.

To my students, remember, you will be graded based on participation and performance. If you have any questions or need additional help, please let me know.

I was thinking of cooking something special tomorrow night, if you'd all like to join Jilly and me at our flat. Life has been madness trying to prepare for the festival. It would be refreshing to see everyone. If cooking turns into a complete disaster, we can all meet at Seventh Heaven instead.

That includes you, Kirsi, even if you don't eat.  We should very much like to see you.

Would you like to meet me for coffee tonight?

[He'll get out of school earlyish today and be around town in various shops, the library, and pretty much anywhere else within reason.]
simplestgift: (Casual lieutenant)
[Archie doesn't do a lot of voice posts. They make him feel weird. So he's speaking this one like he's reading it from a piece of paper he wrote out beforehand. Which he is.]

This is Mister Kennedy. As some of you already know, I am attempting to organize a regular goodbye ceremony for the friends and family of those who have been sent home. In preparation for this, I shall need a list of names of those who have gone on. If any one of you has had any person you care for sent home, please tell me their name. These names are to be read aloud at the ceremony.

If any one of you has a suggestion or should like to volunteer help, your aid will be appreciated greatly. The ceremony will take place monthly, God willing, on a day that shall be decided before long. You may approach myself or Miss Dawn Summers about this.

Thank you.

[There's a relieved sigh cut off halfway as the transmission ends.

He'll be outside today, writing ideas and names and plans on non-journal paper, but looking like every movement hurts but still doing it without sound or complaint, as if absolutely nothing is wrong. Later, of course, he'll be at Good Spirits, drinking very, very, very stiffly, as if raising the glass to his lips is painful.]
simplestgift: (z Jolly big hat.)
[Citizens of Luceti may see Archie Kennedy wandering around with a new hat today. It looks a little like something a magician would pull a rabbit out of, but he seems to be enjoying it. He'll be around town today--the library and grocery store during the day, and Good Spirits in the evening. In the afternoon, he'll sit at the fountain to pen a few words.]

I believe morale might improve if we had some sort of goodbye ceremony for those who were returned home. Not a funeral, mind you, just an occasion to remember them, celebrate their return, and hope to join them soon. Perhaps once a month or so, for everyone who left during the month. It's the little things that help one cope, sometimes.

Also, who left a note under my door? I'm afraid I can't read it, or indeed tell if it was even meant for me. I live in Building One, in the first flat on the first floor.

Dawn,

It's a bit late for St. Valentine's Day, with the experim but I wrote something for you. Tradition and all I couldn't do this last week, so I'm sending it to you this way. I hope the filter works. Here it is Keep in mind I'm no poet

Helena, the stars are brighter in your eyes than in the sky
Helena, the moonlight glowing in your skin is far less shy
Yet you laugh as if the world is small and you are woman-sized
Till I believe that nothing good within it can be compromised

Worth a laugh, at any rate You must think me a complete All the same, I have thought about

I should like to court you properly. If you like, that is. It's a lovely evening, and I shall be at the fountain. I hope to see you.

Yours,

Archie

Doctor McCoy?

[It's Kennedy, and he sounds awful.  It's been a couple of days since he's left his room or contacted anyone over the journals.]

Are you in the clinic at the moment? Fever and aches aren't as much to my liking as I'd first thought. If I die before I make it there, please make sure Captain Jack stays out of my things until I return.
simplestgift: (proud smile)
They have everything Shakespeare ever wrote in the library.  Everything!  It's a fountain of gold.  I could spend days here.  I'd sleep here if they'd let me.  I don't think I've ever been happier.  And there's no theatre group here?  None?  Do people here not realize what they have?  What kind of a world is this?

In case anyone asks, I'll be in the library for the rest of my life.

[Or really just the rest of the day.   At some point he'll have to come up for air and grab something to eat at the 7th Heaven, where he'll be buried in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.  It'll be dark before he goes home, carrying only a single book.]
