I was thinking of cooking something special tomorrow night, if you'd all like to join Jilly and me at our flat. Life has been madness trying to prepare for the festival. It would be refreshing to see everyone. If cooking turns into a complete disaster, we can all meet at Seventh Heaven instead.

That includes you, Kirsi, even if you don't eat.  We should very much like to see you.

[the word is sort of disparagingly-but-benignly muttered. But the tone doesn't matter much, because as Archie well knows, half-muttered statements have been Ginko's version of a polite "Good morning, how are you today?" since childhood.]

Yes, I caught my niece this morning walking home from someone else's house in nothing but her night-shirt. Probably a shift.

[There is a setup for something there, along the lines of "and that was unusual?" -- but as bad as they are, Ginko's understanding of social norms at least extend that far. Just a raised eyebrow] Guess so.

It's their job, after all. [only very faintly sardonic. The topic doesn't often come up, but Ginko's slightly atypical mistrust of the Malnosso surfaces once in a while-- especially after things like this.]

Knowing what brilliant conversationalists they are, I look forward to it. I take hikes, Ginko, I promise. The woods are very nearly the same now as they were when we were boys. There's a shift every now and again, but very little changes.
