Seven Bells: [ACTION/WRITTEN] Hat Day.

[Citizens of Luceti may see Archie Kennedy wandering around with a new hat today. It looks a little like something a magician would pull a rabbit out of, but he seems to be enjoying it. He'll be around town today--the library and grocery store during the day, and Good Spirits in the evening. In the afternoon, he'll sit at the fountain to pen a few words.]

I believe morale might improve if we had some sort of goodbye ceremony for those who were returned home. Not a funeral, mind you, just an occasion to remember them, celebrate their return, and hope to join them soon. Perhaps once a month or so, for everyone who left during the month. It's the little things that help one cope, sometimes.

Also, who left a note under my door? I'm afraid I can't read it, or indeed tell if it was even meant for me. I live in Building One, in the first flat on the first floor.

I do hope we can all agree on murder rape, theft and others, but what about theocracies, where not believing in the local deity is considered a crime?

I was not speaking of such things. To be frank, I'm surprised Luceti isn't plagued by more lawlessness than it has. It's as if most people, at least, know what is expected of them.

Well, you did say there are many powerful fighters here. Perhaps those with criminal tendencies fear retribution, in such an environment? That might be enough to convince some of them not to cause much trouble.

No. I don't believe fear of retribution alone would do it. It's never as powerful as the fear such people hold over those they've harmed.

Perhaps most of the villagers are naturally good people, then. That would be a comforting thought.

It would, but I wouldn't take the chance. Although it would make sense for the Malnosso to choose people who would naturally behave themselves.

It would mean less work and involvement on their part, and less repairs to the enclosure, as there would be little property damage.

Even the good things about this place have evil intent.

I'd rather not imagine what could be the intent behind the free supplies. Creating a dependence on the Malnosso, possibly?

They wouldn't want us to starve to death. It wouldn't be to their benefit.

There are animals, plants, lands; they could encourage us to produce our own food, if they wished. But they do not.

They brought us here. When you press a man, you still let him eat from the ship's stores. You don't make him fish for his own food. I think we can be grateful for that.

As long as the food is safe, at least. Did it cause health problems for anyone?

Aside from the fruit that made everyone unusually amorous, no. No one's been poisoned, if that's what you're asking.

I don't think anything happened. I do remember a friend of mine embracing me and refusing to let go.

It was entirely voluntary, but we didn't know what they did.

I did, but only to make my friend let me go. There was something alluring about them.

I don't remember. Sometimes minutes, sometimes hours. It depended on if you kept eating them.
