Seven Bells: [ACTION/WRITTEN] Hat Day.

[Citizens of Luceti may see Archie Kennedy wandering around with a new hat today. It looks a little like something a magician would pull a rabbit out of, but he seems to be enjoying it. He'll be around town today--the library and grocery store during the day, and Good Spirits in the evening. In the afternoon, he'll sit at the fountain to pen a few words.]

I believe morale might improve if we had some sort of goodbye ceremony for those who were returned home. Not a funeral, mind you, just an occasion to remember them, celebrate their return, and hope to join them soon. Perhaps once a month or so, for everyone who left during the month. It's the little things that help one cope, sometimes.

Also, who left a note under my door? I'm afraid I can't read it, or indeed tell if it was even meant for me. I live in Building One, in the first flat on the first floor.

A midshipman could be flogged for such negligence. A lieutenant might be punished in a slightly more dignified way, but it wouldn't be tolerated.

That's good, where you come from? Most the women I knew back home were terrified of ruining their complexion.

I know I look all pale and sunless right now but...come summer? I am going to get all fantastically bronzey.

That's the fashion now, then. [A blink, then a slight twitch of lips and jaw.] What about Dawn? Does she want to be bronzey as well?

[He likes wintry, faerie-queen Dawn.]

She's a little fairer -- more burny, less bronzey.

Nothing a little sunblock won't cure, I suppose. [The very idea of a cream that keeps the sun from burning you sounds ludicrous to him, and it shows in his voice.] I like her how she is.

You do know that whole adage about people changing, right?

Yes, but she doesn't have to do it on purpose just because she thinks it might make her more fashionable.

...But you can wear the way dorky and ancient hat. Right.

Am I wearing it now? [A puff of air. He knows a hopeless situation when he's in one.]

You were, though. And sorry, Archie -- but that hat? Not even a little bit fashionable.

[ she's teasing. mostly. ]

[In response, he tries to set the hat down on her head.]

[ buffy has been developing a bad habit of wearing sailors' hats. she accepts it with a look of mock-doubt. ] See? The antithesis of fashion.

[He's dating her sister, so he's not going to tell her it's adorable. But it is, and his face probably says as much.]

...Jack's tri-corn is comfier, though.

[ she sees that face and raises you one trolling, archie. ]

Stolen his hat, have you? [He says this in an approving tone.]

Does it count as stealing if they pretty much let you take the thing you're trying to steal?

No. That's what makes it so damned frustrating. If you're trying to irritate someone properly and they won't condescend to be irritated, you've only wasted your time.

Exactly.

[ she agrees in a firm voice; however, it's much more likely that buffy preferred jack's leniency over the hat. the attention is not so spurn-worthy. ]

[He's noticed this. But Buffy said she and Jack were okay a few days ago, and since she didn't mention anything else, he's not questioning or teasing about that particular tangled web.] I trust you're well.
