Four Bells: [Voice] Somewhat Unwell

Doctor McCoy?

[It's Kennedy, and he sounds awful.  It's been a couple of days since he's left his room or contacted anyone over the journals.]

Are you in the clinic at the moment? Fever and aches aren't as much to my liking as I'd first thought. If I die before I make it there, please make sure Captain Jack stays out of my things until I return.

[He doesn't really like feeling drugged, but he nods.] All right.

[ nothing more to say, he reaches for his medical kit he brought with him and administers the sedative with a tell-tale hiss. ]

[Archie jerks back. That wasn't what he was expecting at all. It pinched. And he didn't even have to drink anythi...aaand he's out like a light.]

[After Jilly's visit, Archie had drifted off to sleep again. He woke less than an hour later, still feverish but much less so, and--for once!--hungry. He calls out.]

Doctor McCoy?

[ McCoy was sitting quietly in the living room -- probably a bad idea, considering the circumstances -- but at Archie's call, he comes into his bed room. ]

How can I help you, kid?

[When McCoy enters, Archie is sitting up with some effort and beginning to pull the covers off. Call of nature.] Is there any soup left?

Plenty.

[ ... what? he had to do something while he was sleeping. ]

May I have a little? [He swings his legs over the side of the bed slowly.]

Sure, I'll get another bowl for you.

Thank you. [He stands up, finding his joints and muscles much stiffer than expected. They loosen up as he moves, though, so there are two reasons his trip from the bathroom is easier than his trip there. Afterwards, he climbs back in bed and settles in with a sigh, feeling much better.]

[ McCoy will have his soup ready for him by the time he's back in bed and he brings it over for him. ]

[Kennedy takes the soup and sips it carefully, then closes his eyes and leans back with a sigh of appreciation.] You know, Doctor, when I said I'd like to see you, I didn't mean to take you over completely.

[ he shrugs. ] I don't have anything better to do lately.

[A contented smile.] I'm not complaining. I enjoy your company. Captain Jack threatened to sing me a lullaby earlier. You won't let him in, will you?

I'll knock his teeth out if I even get a whiff of him.

[That gets a huge grin.] No salamanders for me today. [Another long drink of the soup.] He's not such a bad sort. Not evil at heart, just mad. Frightened.

He belongs in a funny farm. [ best not discuss how he is treating him for this infliction at the moment. ] Still, just keep away from him. And that bridge.

We're not going to harm each other, Doctor. [Beyond a shallow stab in the shoulder and a bloody nose, anyway.] It's good to know someone from around my time.

... One of the rare comforts you get in this place sometimes. Even if you want to kill them.

Amen. [He takes another drink of soup.] This is very good.

[ there's a slight smile on his face. ] Got your appetite back, then.

Yes. [Another sip, then he sets the bowl down and leans back.] I'm feeling much better. Might even like a shower.
