Four Bells: [Voice] Somewhat Unwell

Doctor McCoy?

[It's Kennedy, and he sounds awful.  It's been a couple of days since he's left his room or contacted anyone over the journals.]

Are you in the clinic at the moment? Fever and aches aren't as much to my liking as I'd first thought. If I die before I make it there, please make sure Captain Jack stays out of my things until I return.

I hope so. I'd have to be awfully upset with you, if you died.

Get some rest, alright? I'll be by later.

[it would take a few hours of wandering through the tempting stacks in the library before she'd manage to pull herself free, a pile of books in her arms with a container of orange juice balanced on top.

She doesn't go straight to his room, though. After all, drinking from the carton, while simple, probably isn't the best idea. So she'll go to the kitchen and pour him a glass, and then make her careful way back to his apartment.

She'll knock softly on the door...but she tests the handle right after. If it's unlocked, there's no need to make him get up]

[ when she tests the handle, McCoy has already come to investigate and comes face to face with Jilly at the door. ]

Uh.. you here to see Kennedy?

I am. You must be the doctor.

[smiling, Jilly will shift the books as carefully as she can, glass of juice balancing precariously on top, as she glances past him towards the hallway.]

I told him I'd come by... but if he's sleeping, I can leave these with you.

[identity profile] hippocraticly.livejournal.com 2011-02-08 05:54 am (UTC)(link)
And have him whine about me for the rest of the afternoon? Like hell am I subjecting myself to that.

[ which, in Bones talk, translates into 'sure, you can see him' as he eyes that drink and those books. and so no one can accuse McCoy of ignoring a lady, he offers: ]

Here, I can carry those books for you.

Thanks. [passing them over with a little maneuvering, she'll recover the glass before offering the doctor a hand]

I'm Jilly, by the way.

[identity profile] hippocraticly.livejournal.com 2011-02-08 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
Leonard McCoy.

[ he offers the gruff greeting as he takes the books and leads her to his room. ]

Well, hopefully he's a benevolent one because he's holding your books hostage, now.

[there's concern in her eyes as she looks him over, taking in his sorry state, but that smile stays in place as she holds up the glass]

I managed to keep the juice, though...so you're welcome to it, if you're up for it.
ext_934189: (a quiet laugh)

Sorry if I'm slow again. RL is being evil, but I'll keep popping in

[identity profile] tehoniongirl.livejournal.com 2011-02-08 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[She'll give McCoy a grateful nod before pulling over a chair to sit next to Archie's bed, setting the orange juice on the nightstand]

Some poetry. Shakespeare's "The Tempest." And another play about a boy who can never grow up.

[They'd all made her think of him, from turns of phrase, to stormy seas and pirates.

Besides, stories of Neverland seemed awfully fitting, trapped in this place.]

Should keep you busy for a few hours.

[ooc: I can stop failing. Honest]

[reaching for the book at the top of the stack, she'll retrieve "Peter Pan, or the Boy Who Wouldn't Grow Up" from the pile, handing it over to Archie. As far as she could tell, it was close to the original printing from 1928, with the black and white line drawings scattered throughout]

I have, but it's been awhile.

[leaning forward in her chair, she'll peer at the pages as best she can from her angle] It's been awhile though.

I always loved the stories where they got to go to other worlds.
ext_934189: (happy to be here)

[it's natural, being like this. Nevermind the accent and the time differences and the worlds between them away from this place. He's just a friend... as easy a connection as the ones she had waiting back home... and it doesn't occur to her to think anything of the space between them.]

I'm pretty sure I never read about a world where they gave you wings. [well, outside of the obvious]

But I think I'd have liked that, too.

I bet all the heroes felt that way about their adventures. It's probably not as fun when you're the one doing the running.

[Amused, she pushes her tangled curls out of her eyes, returning that smile with a grin of her own] But maybe we'll end up with a really good story at the end of it.
ext_934189: (Oh Yeah?)

[identity profile] tehoniongirl.livejournal.com 2011-02-09 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
[she can't help a tiny wince when his smile falters, realizing her mistake too late to change anything.

Saying all their stories end eventually wasn't the same. One of mankind's most amazing skills was its ability to ignore that fact... only that had been taken away from Archie.

She tries to keep her tone light, though. He's not dying today (however he might feel). And that's worth being grateful for, regardless]

So we'll be responsible for getting a great many people drunk. I'm not sure if that's a legacy... or a curse.
