[It's Kennedy, and he sounds awful.  It's been a couple of days since he's left his room or contacted anyone over the journals.]

Are you in the clinic at the moment? Fever and aches aren't as much to my liking as I'd first thought. If I die before I make it there, please make sure Captain Jack stays out of my things until I return.

Leave off, Sparrow. I was making fun. Not very well, I admit, but I am ill. The doctor says so.

He does, does he? Nothing mortally serious, is it?

Nothing rest, food, and water won't take care of. Not serious, but that's easy for him to say. He's not the one who has it.

Right. Do us all a favor and keep yourself away, lad. What are the symptoms?

Fever. Aching all over. A bit of a cough. I'm not dying. You can't have my things.

[all7seas]

Don't WANT your things, son. None of your things, or your fever, or anything, savvy? Though if you die of this I'm not above rifling your belongings. Pirate.

I thought you didn't want them.

[all7seas]

Well not with you alive. [DUH, Archie.]

[A sigh.] I've enough of a headache without this. Besides, I'm not dying. Not more than usual, at least.

Relax, Archie. Of course you're not dying, mate. I were just bein' hypotheticish. Now. Eat soup, have your Dawn rub your temples. Close your eyes. Would you like a lullabye?

[For that generous offer, Archie closes the journal. Take that as a no.]

[ACTION MUAHAHAHA]

[Jack doesn't take no for an answer. He shows up at Archie's some time later with a fifth of whiskey and a bag of dried salamanders. He enters without knocking, of course.]

OI! MERRY CHRISTMAS, YOU ILL YOUNG WHELP!

[Archie was sleeping, albeit a tad fitfully, and ends up rocketing into a half-sitting position, propping himself up on one elbow, eyes wide. When he registers who it is, he groans, head pounding, and flops back on the bed.]

Where's Dr. McCoy?

Doctor McCoy is very conveniently not here at this present time, son. Now. Where's the kettle? [The pirate does not wait for an answer; he simply begins snooping around until he finds one and can fill it with water.]

In the kitchen. Across the hall.

Be right back, lad.

[Jack is gone a disturbingly long time, actually. It might be just the amount of time needed to boil a kettle of water and let several dried salamanders steep in a mug. He returns with a steaming concoction in a chipped white mug that says "Prime Mortgage Associates" on the side.]

Brung you something healing.

[Archie is sick as a dog, but he's not lame, so by the time Jack returns to the apartment, he will find himself locked out. Archie is sitting on the couch, and Jack will be able to hear coughing.]

[Jack can pick locks, no problem. The door swings open.] Well that weren't very nice, son.

[Archie looks a little startled by the fact that Jack enters anyway and more so by the mug. He starts up from the couch and asks a wary question.] What's that smell?

[all7seas]

Your medicine, boy. Here. The Pelegosto SWEAR by it. [He sets the fragrant concoction down by Archie's side. It doesn't smell BAD, exactly. Just exotic, foreign, earthy.]

[But McCoy said something about salamanders before, so Archie is still wary.] What's in it?

Only that which will cast your illness from your body the way a shaman might cast spirits out of a man. Except with less vomiting. Try!

[Jack is so earnest, but Archie grew up on a ship where hazing happened constantly to those who didn't know better. Take Horatio for example, although hazing, for him, ended up including at least one beating that nearly killed him as well as the typical "Lieutenant Eccleston wishes to see you on the fighting top" line everyone got when they first came aboard.] No salamanders?
