Twenty-four bells: [Action]

[Luceti. Even the name is beautiful.

It's quiet here, but not silent. No cannonfire, no stomping feet or shouting men. No bars or guards or grey stone walls. Everything is lovely and serene and everyone is pleasant. Well. Nearly everyone, but that's okay.

In Hornblower's company, Kennedy stops by the bakery and selects, for some reason, cheesecake. He's never had it--not that he can remember, at least--and it is absolutely the most beautiful thing he can imagine. Chocolate cheesecake, smooth and rich and flavorful with a drizzle of raspberry syrup. He tastes it and doesn't just eat it.

They visit the tea shop and he is floored. They visit the clothing shop and he finds a new linen shirt, already made. They visit the library and...

And...

O the glory of the library. It's as if this town was created for his rehabilitation.

Hours are spent in the library until he learns he can take books out. Even then, he very nearly doesn't leave.

On the way home, he asks to be alone for a moment. When given the chance, he walks the woods close to the village. At twilight, he sits at the fountain, staring into space with utter blankness because he knows the pleasantness of this day is going to end.

He doesn't realize it when the moon rises and he's still sitting alone in its pale light.

OOC: Kennedy's replies will come from [livejournal.com profile] babymid_archie. Meet him absolutely anywhere during the day or at night. Depending on when and where, Horatio will tag in as well, so remember to specify when/where in your tag. Share his rapture or cheer him up. Possible triggers--character is hella post-traumatic.]

[And there is the captain, another linen shirt he managed to find draped over his arm. Just a matter of picking through every. single. item. in this shop to find one simple thing he wanted.

Still. Any additional piece of clothing is always a successful day.

He just clears his throat when he nears, at first holding back so as not to disrupt conversation... until he realizes this is exactly the sort of conversation he should disrupt.]

Mi--

[...Now it's Hornblower's turn to flick his gaze over the woman, taking in her strange attire, though the look he fixes on her is... surprised, baffled, and almost offended all at once.]

Mister Kennedy. Miss.

I do... hope I'm not interrupting.

[identity profile] thedicearecast.livejournal.com 2011-11-16 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Not really. I don't think you can interrupt when one person in the conversation forgets how to talk.

[Yeah, Amelia catches that look, Horatio. She's about as impressed by it as she's been by Kennedy's reaction. But since the newcomer has successfully managed to string words together in a sentence already, hopefully he can give out some answers.]

Do you know what's wrong with him?
unneeded: (Don't look.)

[That's more like the treatment he's used to. He didn't miss it. Thanks, Amelia.]

[Horatio bristles, and he has to bite his lip to keep the first words on his mind from coming out. He makes a quiet sound, one that is very nearly a clearing of the throat but not quite.]

Ha--h'm.

You will have to forgive us. [Always "us." There was no way in Hell he was singling Archie out.] Neither Mister Kennedy nor myself are... accustomed... to women dressing as you do, Miss.

[identity profile] thedicearecast.livejournal.com 2011-11-17 08:58 am (UTC)(link)
Amelia, no Miss. And you should change that. [Amelia turns her attention back to Archie for a minute.] Not that there are bounties here, but if you had one on your head, I could've taken you down pretty easily just now.

[Because as blunt as she is, Amelia is honestly concerned. Just...harsh.] That explains some of it, but mostly what I meant is why he doesn't remember me. This isn't the first time we've met, and I sort of work for him. [Which is a whole new issue. If Kennedy is acting like this, just who is dealing with the safe haven assignments?]

[The look she said made him look like a rapist. Right. He looks away again.]

A misunderstanding, Miss Amelia. [It's low, quiet, and careful. The tone of a man not quite sure who he is talking to. The name sounds familiar. It has been mentioned, he is sure.

This much will not hurt, at least.]
Mister Kennedy has recently come from an entanglement with the Malnosso. I'm sure you will understand, Miss Amelia.

[identity profile] thedicearecast.livejournal.com 2011-11-20 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
[Funny how Amelia doesn't remember saying that, Archie. She'd been talking about the whole safe haven thing. Looks like misunderstandings abound.

And she caught that Miss, Horatio. It's not the only reason why she frowns, however. Given that one of her closest friends is also suffering because of them? She really does get it, and most of that offended harshness vanishes.]

Yeah. I'm sorry to hear it. [She glances at Archie again, then shakes her head.] You might want to warn Jilly then, if she doesn't already know.
unneeded: (Better days.)

...Who's Jilly?

[identity profile] thedicearecast.livejournal.com 2011-11-30 11:41 am (UTC)(link)
[Amelia turns back to Archie, having to remind herself that he really doesn't remember, and that it's not his fault.]

Someone who cares about you a lot, and who'll do anything she can to make sure you aren't hurt. You'll run into her eventually. [Or more likely, Jilly will run into him.] Just don't look at her weird, okay? She doesn't dress like me at least, so you should be okay there.
