Well if you think about it. A planet is comprised of trees and animals and all sorts of things. I suppose it being alive itself isn't too far a stretch of the imagination. The filial spirits might even be the planet itself in a more...tangible form. Ah, but, that's just a simple thought of mine with no basis, really. I've never come across anything like this though.
