Fifteen Bells: [ACTION/WRITTEN]

[Archie woke up yesterday.  How is this new?  Well, after getting some fairly critical stab wounds from Grell, he was put on a ventilator and kept under sedation for a few days.  The ventilator was exchanged for a less impressive-looking concentrator yesterday and he was taken off sedation.  He spent yesterday sleeping anyway, since anesthesia doesn't generally leave you bright-eyed immediately afterward.

This morning, he is talking and eating Jell-o, which is a new experience. The most important bit comes written on the journal network in wobbly handwriting courtesy of the heart monitor clipped on his finger.]

I have been informed that I may have visitors. I'd like to know everyone is all right.

[Anyone who comes in will find him looking predictably weak and pale but lucid and in good spirits, or possibly catnapping after a dose of painkillers.

OOC: Purely for the sake of mercy, Archie is unaffected by the event.]

"I heard." He can't keep the irritation out of his voice. "I haven't even been awake a day and I'm already being driven mad. Why must I stay? I can lie in bed as easily at home."

Except, come to think of it, he's not that eager to go back to the apartment. Just being out of here, though...

McCoy cocks an eyebrow up at the fluctuation in his voice. It seems... familiar to him somehow and he casts his eyes back down to his chart again, before issuing a firm last word on the issue. "My mind will not be swayed, Lieutenant. You will remain here for seven days."

His mouth and jaw tighten, and he stares resolutely at the ceiling, already plotting how to convince Jack to help him escape from this hole. Jack might actually help. Horatio will defer to the doctor, and Jilly...sort of a wild card, maybe. Dawn might help for the adventure. Jack might need incentive.

"Of course. Seven days."

In a yeah right tone.

If you're asking about the ones connected to Jack who were occupying Grell's attention? No one that I know of.

It didn't come down to a fight.

You said no one was hurt by Grell. Has anything happened?

I haven't been in touch with anyone besides Buffy or Jilly since you first got here.

[He lets out a breath.] All right. Tell me what happened with Buffy.

She and Grell managed to reach a tenuous and, with any luck, temporary agreement.

Put very simply - Grell will leave us alone if we don't make a move against her, on top of not revealing to the village what she did to you and Jack.

Then she wins.

McCoy may have lost his spark this week, but it doesn't mean he's an idiot. Intellect has been clouding his emotional judgement for days now and in all honestly, he can't see this is a bad thing. Emotions can lead to irrational decisions.

Not that it bares much consequence now. He opens his mouth to reply when a flicker of anger manages to pierce through that cold, logical demeanour once more and he glares at Archie, brow creased in irritation and teeth bared as he hits the chart against the metal bed frame, hard. "I'm gonna trust you, Archie. Don't make me regret it."

Kennedy's head snaps toward McCoy now, startled by the sudden emotional outburst. After a moment, he just looks disappointed.

"Very well. But...can't you reconsider? You said I'm recovering well."

[ voice ]

[Yeah, Giles said she was acting funny.] Well, there was no need. I'm right as rain, my word on it.

"I swear I wouldn't get out of bed." He glances out the window. "How long before I may visit other patients?"

Selphie has been nice to chat with.

Kennedy lets out a relieved breath. "It's all I ask." Blinkblink at the ceiling. "Thank you."

[He slips her a ten.] Do you have any aces?

"I am only performing the task that is expected of me. I have no need for your thanks." McCoy replies equably and puts the chart back at the bottom of his bed. "Should you need me, I will be here."

[Groaning good naturedly she hands him two such cards.

She's having to bite back questions about the circumstances of Archie's injuries. She knows he was attacked and not much else. But Giles told her not to get involved, and she figures it's a sore topic. So she casts about for a different topic of conversation. For now she just asks:]

Do I draw a card now?

Kennedy nods softly. "Is there anything else I'm not permitted to do?"

[Not simply a sore topic, but a dangerous one. Ingrid does not want to get involved in this. Kennedy blinks at both cards, then hands them back.] Actually, if you have two of them, they're yours. You place them in front of you--they're a pair.
