Three Bells: [WRITTEN] - New Horizons in Lit Appreciation

They have everything Shakespeare ever wrote in the library.  Everything!  It's a fountain of gold.  I could spend days here.  I'd sleep here if they'd let me.  I don't think I've ever been happier.  And there's no theatre group here?  None?  Do people here not realize what they have?  What kind of a world is this?

In case anyone asks, I'll be in the library for the rest of my life.

[Or really just the rest of the day.   At some point he'll have to come up for air and grab something to eat at the 7th Heaven, where he'll be buried in 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.  It'll be dark before he goes home, carrying only a single book.]

[ lifting his head from the bar and looking very serious. ]

No. You would have ended up with a broken neck.

As far as I know, you can only levitate with these things. I've never tried myself and I'm not in a hurry to throw myself off something at a great height.

[ he pales at the mere consideration at doing this. ]

[ McCoy doesn't answer him. maybe if he ignores this question, it will go away and never be brought up again. ]

Heights. Flying. It's all the same to me.

Nothing good comes from flying, kid. I should know. Hell, I can write the book on the subject. And the fact they have the nerve to stick these wings on my back... [ he trails off into an agitated a little huff. the wings still bothered him. ]

I hate flying. And heights. And transporters.

[ . . . allow that to properly sink in. ]

Good God man, why would you -- did you lose your mind?

... You jumped off a cliff and into water.

[ still looking at you like you've lost your Goddamn mind, Archie. you just described his worst nightmare. ]

Enjoying a nice, cool mint julep on a hot summer day is fun. Having people listen to you when you're trying to treat them can be fun too. What you just described to me? I wouldn't call that fun.

Because the acting captain was there. [ a lie, of course. it's hard to derive humour from something as worse as the wounds that Kennedy had when he brought in. ]

I'm not going to diagnose you. [ he tugs at the collar of his coat. ] I'm off-duty.

[ noticing the dip in morale, he puts down his glass and claps the other man on the back. ]
