This is Mr. Kennedy. The Britannia, Luceti's new sloop of war under command of Captain Hornblower, is finished and for all purposes ready to sail. Unfortunately, as she cannot sail herself, Captain Hornblower is in need of a crew.

Not many are required simply to sail her. A half dozen at least, although we should prefer more. We do not expect exclusivity--in Luceti, there is no point. If you are already part of another crew, you are welcome to remain a part of that crew and sail with us as well. As the winter months are approaching, we are not likely to weigh anchor for some time, so there will be plenty of time to train recruits who have no sailing experience.

[He can only think the vi must mean from. But...wow. Just kinda...wow. Now he feels like a jerk for some reason, as if he could have known he was throwing around part of her name like it belonged to him.]

It was 2018 a.t.b. when I was brought here, though I'm not certain how that would translate, if your world doesn't use the Imperial Calendar. Or does it?

What does A.T.B. stand for?

Oh— it's "Ascension Throne Britannia." It measures time since the beginning of the Empire, at the Romans' attempted invasion of the Isles and the unification of the Celtic tribes.

Attempted invasion? [Archie doesn't know that much about history unless it's history-a-la-Shakespeare, but he's pretty sure the Romans managed to invade. Otherwise, all that Roman architecture wouldn't still be around.]

[She's starting to wonder if anything corresponds in the histories of their worlds, other than the origins of the Empire itself, and sounds a little more hesitant when she continues.]

When the Romans tried to invade the Isles, and the Celtic tribes drove them off and chose Eowyn as their king. That was the origin of the Britannian Empire.
